Playing with Wiki!

Working with Wikipedia is kind of fun for me. Playing the game where you can be a “God”. You can copy and paste, deleate something that you don’t like, correct something! Shorter you can do WHATEVER you wanted to DO!  

At the very begining it was very funny. I copied and pasted some entries of my classmates, pasted some curious pictures that actually wasn’t relevant to the topic of my page. I corrected some peopels work. It was funny only at the begining. 

Then I realized that everybody around me did the same “FUN”. May be somebody grab MY ideas, MY oppinion from MY entry correct it, Oh my God Copy and Paste it!  It is unplesant! It is really unplesant feeling! Our plaing reming me team act of VANDALISM!

In Wiki I realized that I can’t do anything to protect my intelectual property from the other user of internet!      

Conversation Experiment

I was visited the personal site of Natalia M. I find it realy intereating and helfull. I examined that Natalia is very interesting and smart peron that have her own oppinion on every issue. I find some new information for me that I interested in. For example, Paulo Coelho site and the site of Macro Photography on wich she created the link. I noticed that Natalia M. site is popular because for the each article she have some comments. I decited to interact with Natalia and live her a comment to the article that I realy like -

I think that my conversation experiment finished successfully because I live the comment on the Weblog and author give me a feedback. It is a great example of interaction!

Wikipedia Reliability

The quetion about reliability of the Wikipedia is quite controversial. At the one hand,  as my teacher of IR think is that Wikipedia cannot be authoritative source of infromation. Mr. Graham  suggested that Wikipedia written by the nonprofesional, amateur reporters. They arenot testing and the process of editing information there is chaotic. Sometimes he even promise to punish you  because you using Wikipedia site as the main sourse of information to you written work or for presentation. 

At the other hand, as Elena Vladimirovna, the Critical Thinking teacher, claim that Wikipedia untrustworthy help students to develop critical thinking skills. “You need to be carefull about trusting all that you read” – she said.

Ross Mayfiels, the journalist of the “We media” project agree that Wikipedia is not reliable source. But the main plus of the Encyclopedia is that it takes the idea of open source. I understand it like everybody can use it. Wikipedia is open for thousands of people. Through Wikipedia we can improve our talent, working skills, writing skills and learn something new. Indeed, through this process any source can become reliable and credible. Ross Mayfield mentioned  one intereting fact that “We Media” project was started with Wikipedia format.

I have read some comments to the Ross Mayfield article.  The same dissent about Wikipedia I meet there. Some people think that this source is silly, stupid and simple. Other think that Wikipedia is helpfull and comfortable.

At the conclusion, I wanted to say that we must give a chance to the Wikipedia. In my oppinion, the biggest plus of Wikipedia is that it is developing.  

     

What specific tools does the site use to promote community?

My quetion is about what sites use to attract attention of the audience. At first I wanted to say “why” sites and blogs draw people. Because people wanted to have a voice.  Every average person wanted to have reputation. We all wanted to become ”bigger” and powerfull, to have reputation, I think. The second point is that based on human nature – to interact with each other. Share with like-minded persons you ideas and oppinions. Third is the wish to be informed. And finaly, people wanted to entertain, have some fun. In my oppinion, this are the base points that all blogers should remeber to draw his/her audience.

I examined Neweurasia site. This site is really attractive and intersting. It covered a huge amount of information about Neweurasoa region. Neweurasia create on-line union of all CIS contries readers and blogers. If you want you can live commnets to each article there. Every article provides link/s to the theme that they covered or to the lates post for the same theme. You can easily orrientated in site. If you don’t what to read all articles you can choose category that you need. You can find something easily use spesial Search program. You can become a blogger if you want. They suggest the place. And of course, on the neweurasia.net you can use RSS reader. This reader will safe you time and make your Web search much more efficient.    

Something about Community!

What do communities have in common, or how are they different?

I wanted to repeat one idea, that all communities have in common one idea, one big interest that glue the hall community. Last night I watch film “Hooligans”. This film is about fan club of English footbal team and about one boy that became a member of this club. This fan club use very “strong” methods to fight with other command’s fan clubs. They fight with another fans, beat them and somethimes kill. The idea I wanted to say about that the difference is in way such communities work to achive their goals.

How do we as individuals relate to our community(ies)?

When we became a member of community we have some cliche to do.  Every communty have its rules that every member need to  follow. Some communities, for example,  skin heads have special dot mark that make them special and for this reason other member can recognize them.  

Are communities of equal importance?

I think yes. Every community is equal important, because comminity it is firstly the idea that share many people. that is why this organization of people can influence to another.

How do online and offline communities compare?

Online communities I think have more power then offline communities. Because of using NIT’s they have advantage like time and distance. And idea of any community is to attract as many members as it can. So online comminities do. It is much more esie to creat a community in interenet. For example, hi5 is a huge international community were people can interact with each other.  

What do you get out of being part of that community?

I am a part of my family. I am a part of student community. And I am a part of society. For example, my family brought me up, help me in any problmes that I ever had. To be a member of student community means to study at any university, to have student ID card, to do some student activities.  Student community can be very dangerous and strong providing their interests. Every body remembered the protest that was here at KIMEP. In my oppinion the student communtiy have power to change something, to influence on another big community to achive interested goals. 

 To be a part of society means to participate in social life. For example,  to vote or to communicate with people. It is quetion of survival. Human is a social creacher. To survive mean to communicate with other members of society. If you want for example to earn money you need to participate in any organizations or company that can give you a job. In any sphere of live we need to be a part of something big. 

 Interests play a grate role in creating of an independent community. For example, communtity of smokers or  commutity of choclate lovers.

What is journalism ?

Journalism it is a great profession to inform, to educate and to help people. Journalism means to provide public interests, to be a Watch Dog for goverment. Journalism it is connection link between goverment and people. Journalism is a indicator of the helth of society I mean that journalism should be independent. I think that the main idea of the journalism is to tell a thruth. Journalist must provide to the public thruthfull and checked information.

Assignment June 8

My online beat.

First of all I wanted to say that using Bloglines is really good thing. It makes easy to read lots of sites and save feeds that you like. I wanted to add that RSS reader makes life easer. RSS reader feeds include headlines and other information. It is very comfartable, I think.

I chose three themes that I interested in. First is Education. Second is Mass media. Third is News. Education issue is important for me because in future I wanted to continue education in Europe, may be in US. Second topic about Mass Media I wanted to be a journalist in future and all events that reletives to this topic is important for me. And third topic, provide me all information about what happened in the World.

Honestly, I selected all information sources according that we do in class using CCN site and some other.    

Brainstorming

How is the internet similar to or different from other types of media like print, radio, and television?

I think that the internet and nowadays media have something simular in common and complite differences at the same time! The simularity of this two types of information sources is in idea to inform and to educate people. But the process is realy different. For example, internet journalism (Blogging) is a new form of journalism that gives us opportunity to share with the hall world our ideas and oppinion. It is great to take on the role of reporter, the role of journalist, the role of publisher. You can create your personal broudcasting system.  In print, radio and televition we always have editors and goverment. This obstacles  bounded the work of any journalist.

Internet means NEW!

I think, that the internet is a great source of any news or information that you need. Nowadays Internet become a tool to make your live interesting and easier. World Wide Spider-web help people to work, to learn and to interact. Through the internet search programs like Google I always find any information that I need. Through the http://www.bbc.co.uk/?ok, http://www.lenta.ru/ I find all news, information of the all events that happened in the World.  You can choose any topic that you interested in and Internet will give you the accsess to it. If you like music you can download music, if you like to watch films you can download films.  

Internet  gives you a freedom.  For example, you can create your own Weblog and published there anythink that you want, you oppinions and thoughts. You can create information by yourself. You can make news by yourself.  I think it is great opportunity to be free from any obstaclse and oppinions. In my oppinion, the main point of using internet as the main sourse of information is the convinience and quick accsess to information that is very important in the NIT’s Sentury. I think it is realy great!
